Hello, and welcome to the Flatlander's Guide!

First of all, you may be wondering what a "flatlander" is.  I used to consider myself a mid-western girl, but since I moved from Kansas to the Pacific Northwest, I consider myself a flatlander. (If you have ever been through Kansas you know exactly what I mean.) Don't get me wrong, Kansas is a wonderful place to call home, and the people there are among the friendliest you may find, but if mountain and water views are what you are after, the Pacific Northwest is the place to be.

I made my first visit here in March of 1998 for a business conference and was amazed at what I found. I barely had time to take in the sites, but just a visit to Pike Place Market and a glimpse of Whidbey was enough to decide that this area deserved some extended personal investigation. I made my move to Washington six month's later, much to the surprise of my friends back home.

My objective for this Guide is to share a pictorial view and the experiences from someone who is seeing it for the first time! It appears that this task could keep me busy for a LONG TIME. I'm expecting this to be a lot of fun, and I hope to share that with you.

I invite you to come back often as we continue to add to our gallery of Whidbey Island images. We would be happy to notify you by email when we make changes to our site, if you would like to participate in our FREE subscription service.
